Question:
What are some cervical and ovarian cancer symptoms to watch for?
Answer:
Regarding cervical cancer, you may experience pelvic pain or abnormal vaginal bleeding. The best screening practice is an annual exam and a pap smear when indicated. This has greatly reduced the incidence of cervical cancer.
For ovarian cancer, you may experience pelvic pain, bloating, early satiety and overall abdominal discomfort. Unfortunately, there is not a definitive screening test for ovarian cancer. There are some tests that can be performed after a mass is found, but there is nothing that can serve as an early indicator like the Pap test. As always the best thing to do is have an annual checkup with your physician.
