Owasso’s twin bridges are soon to be replaced as part of a highway widening project beginning July 6. A total of eight bridges will be replaced and 1.2 miles of highway between 56th Street North and 66th Street North widened from four to six lanes. Four of the eight bridges being replaced near Bird Creek have been listed as structurally deficient.
U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe came to Owasso along with several other community leaders detailing the importance of the project.
The project cost is estimated at $45 million dollars. It was awarded to Becco Contractors Inc. of Tulsa and is expected to be finished by February 2017.
At least one lane in each direction will be kept open during the project.
The ultimate goal is to widen the highway all the way through Owasso to 116th Street North.
