Q: I have noticed more hair in my hairbrush after brushing lately. Should I be concerned?
A: Hair loss can be caused by many different things. First of all, it is normal to go through cycles where your hair grows more than other times, and you will also go through cycles where you will lose more hair than normal. Stress is probably the biggest cause of an abnormal amount of hair loss. Anytime our body is stressed, whether due to physical, emotional, or mental reasons, hair loss can be a side effect. There are also some underlying medical disorders such as hypothyroidism and iron deficiency that can trigger hair loss. A good idea would be to talk to your primary care doctor and have some blood work done to rule out potential causes of hair loss if your symptoms persist or if you are having other symptoms concurrently.
