Marion W. McAfee (Bud) was born in Collinsville, Oklahoma, on October 9, 1923, to parents, William
Asbury McAfee and Lottie Roberts McAfee. He attended and graduated from Collinsville schools.
Bud served his country in World War II with the 24th portable surgical hospital in the Pacific Theater from
1943 to 1945. After being honorably discharged from the service he returned home and married Leta
Willamae Hall. He worked in the mailing room for the Newspaper Printing Corporation (The Tulsa World
and Tribune) for the next 40 years.
He and Willamae settled in Collinsville and raised their family here. To this union was born three
daughters Linda, Donna, and Merrileta and one son Don. The entire family was active in Church and
Community service.
Bud was a Charter member and organizer of Faith Assembly Church (now Faith Fellowship). He served
as a deacon and taught Sunday School for many years.
Bud and Willamae established the Dairy Capital 4-H Club in Collinsville in 1957 and continued to serve in
many local, county, and state 4-H leadership roles until approximately 2000. For a number of years, the
family was involved with Tri-County, Tulsa County, and Tulsa State Fairs.
From July 1993 until October 1996, Bud served as a member of the Collinsville City Council and then as
the Mayor of Collinsville from October 1990 until April of 2000. During his tenure as mayor he
supported a number of community enhancements including the Collinsville Library expansion,
emergency services improvements, and implementation of the City Manager role. Very involved in
many community activities, he served as a member of the North Eastern Oklahoma Economic
Development Committee. Until his death he served on the Board of Directors of the Collinsville Senior
Center.
January 17, 2006, Bud married his long time friend Willadean Anderson Brannon following Willamae’s
death. Dean and Bud loved and supported each other for the last 9 years of his life.
Over the years, Bud thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his brothers from the Veterans of Foreign
Wars. Many mornings one could find Bud drinking coffee, playing checkers or dominoes, and just
“visiting at the VFW”. Holidays often found him placing or collecting American flags around town. Bud
felt that marching in parades and participating in programs for school children were his patriotic duty.
He loved his country dearly.
Bud’s community service, VFW activities and church work kept him very busy. While he loved being
outside in the garden and yard, his life’s passion was children and youth. He dearly loved his children
and step-children, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grand-children, and numerous nieces and nephews. Many
hours of Bud’s life were spent attending school programs, sports activities, recitals, weddings, and
graduations. He believed that children need adult attention and preached the value of education. Bud
was a role model who invested in hundreds of youth in Collinsville and the surrounding area.
Bud was proceeded in death by his parents, his first wife, 8 siblings, 2 children, and 1 step son.
Visitation will be 9AM to 5PM Thursday, July 30, 2015 with family receiving guests from 4PM to 7PM at Dighton-
Moore Funeral Service in Owasso, OK.
Services are scheduled for 2PM Friday, July 31, 2015 at Faith Fellowship Church, Collinsville. Interment will follow
at Ridgelawn Cemetery, Collinsville, OK. Casket Bearers will be Aaron Frye, Brian Frye, Syrus Periard, Kevin Lefler,
Tony Moore, Basil Roberts.
Funeral services were entrusted to Dighton-Moore Funeral Service of Owasso, OK.
