TULSA – Police officers and firefighters squared off to test their barbecue skills during the Badges, Blazes and BBQ Cook-Off last week.
This first competition, which will become an annual event, was held at the Kirk of The Hills Presbyterian Church in south Tulsa on Sunday, September 27.
Members of the Owasso Fraternal Order of Police, the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa Fire Department began cooking early that morning and competed for the judges and the crowd gathered in the church parking lot.
Owasso won the judge’s choice award and Tulsa Fire won the people’s choice award.
All proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorship of the event will benefit the Juvenile Justice Ministry, a program which ministers to young people who have been convicted of crimes. The program is raising funding to help with programs to assist more Tulsa-area youth. For more information, contact http://yfctulsa.org/
U.S. Federal Judge Greg Frizzell, Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler and KJRH reporter Marla Carter judged the competition.
