Question:
Why would I have vaginal bleeding a couple weeks before my cycle is due?
Answer:
A healthy ovulating woman will have a period every month. On average, this is every 28 days. Sometimes women bleed sooner or later than this. There are a few reasons why a woman may bleed before her period.
- Sometimes a woman will bleed early then not have a period because she is pregnant.
- Cervical polyps can cause bleeding before a cycle.
- If a woman has uterine fibroids, she may bleed before a cycle.
- Women with the Nexplanon contraceptive device can have bleeding before a period.
- If you take oral contraceptives and miss a dose, you may bleed before your period.
If this has happened only once, then it’s most likely not a big deal. If the problem continues or you just aren’t sure, call your doctor and make an appointment.
