SapcutLeland Virgil Sapcut was born in Apache, OK on July 7, 1927 to George and Blanche (Koassechony) Sapcut. After the death of his mother, he was raised by his Uncle & Aunt, Frank and Marian (Ahdosy) Sapcut and their children – Kenneth Sapcut, Vincent Sapcut, Andretta Koassechony, Richard (Hootie) Sapcut, Barbara Sapcut Asepermy, Mary Sapcut and Sharon Sapcut Enriquez. A full blood member of the Comanche Tribe, Leland was raised in Apache, attending Doyle & Boone schools and graduating from Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas in 1946. He joined the US Army in September of 1946, serving with the 12th Calvary in Japan.

Leland began his career as a mail carrier in Odessa, Texas, retiring after 38 years from the southeast station in Tulsa, OK. After retirement, he worked part-time for Ala Carte Courier in Tulsa. He was married to Leda Turner in Tulsa, enjoying 47 years together and raising their seven children. His hobbies included coaching his son’s baseball teams, playing and coaching in the slow-pitch softball league with his postal buddies, loading up the neighborhood and going boating and camping at the lake. He especially enjoyed fishing with his grandkids and attending their sporting events.

Surviving are his wife Leda; children – Lorraine Houck and husband Steven of Owasso, Mark Gregory of Wagoner, OK; grandchildren – Richard Sapcut, George A. Sapcut, Clay Gregory and wife Melissa, Camden, Brennen, Raegan and Rylie Houck; great grandchildren Stephanie Carr, Cody Sapcut, Lauren Mitchell, Jaxon Browning, Ian Gregory and Chrissy Fuller; sisters – Rita Sapcut Coosewoon, Aurilla Craig, Deloris Aitson, Georgia Sapcut, Beverly Isaac and Yonevea Sapcut. Leland was preceded in death by his parents; children – George Sapcut, Ronald Sapcut, Reginald (Beebe) Sapcut, Karen Stapleton and Donald Gregory, Jr. Also preceding him were his siblings – Tommie Sapcut, Meredith (Butch) Sapcut, George Sapcut, Jr, Wilbur Sapcut and Lorraine (Berdina) Sapcut.

Visitation will be from 5-7pm Thursday, January 14, 2016 at Mowery Funeral Service with funeral services at 1:30 pm on Friday in the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Gary Woodson of Crossroads Community Church of Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow at the Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa with military honors accorded by the U.S. Army and the Comanche Nation Veterans Association.
