Spread the love

J McdonghuJon Michael McDonough, 49, completed his mortal sojourn and returned to our heavenly home in the early morning hours of March 28, 2016 at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Jon’s last full day on earth was spent with family celebrating Easter and the blessing of eternal life afforded to all because of such event.

Jon was born in Wichita, Kansas on May 25, 1966 to Jerome (Jerry) Gordon McDonough and Arlene Marie (Gipson) McDonough. Jon moved with his family the following year to Owasso, Oklahoma, where he grew up. As a child, Jon enjoyed playing sports, participating in Boy Scouts, riding his bicycle, watching Uncle Zeb and Mazeppa and growing up in the small town that Owasso once was. He graduated from Owasso High School in 1984 and subsequently received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Rogers State University, then known as Claremore Junior College where he was a DJ for the college radio station. Jon had an excellent “radio voice” and later found work as a DJ for radio station KGTO 1050 am out of Tulsa.

For the past several years Jon had made a home in Wynona, Oklahoma and found joy in his work as a Customer Service Representative and in working with his co-workers at Sitel Corporation in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he had been employed since April of 2010. Jon was admired by his supervisors and co-workers who enjoyed his “humor and love of life”. Jon loved sports, especially football. His two favorite teams were the Oklahoma Sooners and the New York Giants. Toward the end of his life, he was so excited to meet and count as a friend the great Oklahoma Sooner and Dallas Cowboys legend, Roy Williams.

Jon is survived by his long-time love Cheryl Stansberry of Marion, North Carolina, and her 2 children, Danny Stansberry and Troy Stansberry and her 4 grandchildren, Adilyn Stansberry, Iziah Stansberry, Serena Stansberry and Malia Stansberry, all from Pawhuska, Oklahoma, who looked to Jon as a father and grandfather. Additional survivors include a sister, Debra Ann Beatty and her husband Mike of Overland Park, Kansas; and three brothers, David McDonough and his wife Terri of Garfield, Arkansas; Brian McDonough and his wife Brenda of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Jamie McDonough of Rogers, Arkansas; two aunts, Patricia (Gipson) Rhoades and her husband Roger of Wichita, Kansas; and Debra (Gipson) McDaniel and her husband Scott of McPherson, Kansas as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Jon is known for both telling and showing those around him how much he cares for them and for his love of life and, as he always says, being “in good spirits”. Though his family and friends will miss him greatly, they look forward to the day when all will see his smiling face once again.
