After seeing a Little Free Library box on Cherry Street in Tulsa, Morgan Harmon thought what a great idea it would be to bring one to Owasso. Morgan is in

the elementary education program at Cameron University and has a love for children, wanting to teach them to love reading. The concept of this Little Free Library is exactly that – Free! This library at Owasso Mills Elementary is for children’s books. The first books filling the LFL were donated by Cameron University. The idea is for children PreK through 6th grade to take a book to borrow and return it when they are done, or bring another one from home to donate to the library. Take a book, leave a book.
The library will be continuously monitored to make sure all books are age appropriate and fit what the library should contain.
There is no set plan for how a little library should look. Other elementary education students at Cameron University (RSU campus) and the professors helped bring the idea to life. Home Depot donated all the paint and Worley’s Nursery in Owasso donated the flowers that surround it. Morgan and her husband Owasso Police Officer Adam Harmon built the library themselves. The artwork on the library is modeled after the book “The Learning Tree.”
There are over 36,000 Little Free Library book exchanges around the world, bring curbside literacy home and sharing the love of reading and millions of books annually.
