Jerry Norman “Tony” Bennett, resident of Owasso, passed from this life on Sunday, October 2, 2016, in Tulsa at the age of 78 years. He was born February 5, 1938, in Vian, Oklahoma, to Roy Clay and Lillian Pauline (Brockman) Bennett. Jerry was raised and received his education in Vian graduating from Vian High School. At an early age he was baptized in the Methodist faith. He later moved to Tulsa where he worked for American Airlines before starting his career in sales, selling yellow page advertising. Jerry had resided in Owasso since 1980. Jerry enjoyed traveling, especially to tropical places and spending time with his many friends and family.
Those that survive include his longtime companion and fiancé Shirley Smidt of the home; two daughters Nima Bennett and Leta Zoe Bennett both of Tulsa; three grandchildren Andrew, Lilly and Katie Bennett; sister Wanda McConnell of Tulsa; and two brothers Joe Bennett of Vian, Oklahoma, and Paul Bennett of Missouri. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister and a sister Betty June Millican.
Funeral services for Jerry will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, October 6, 2016, in the chapel of the Mowery Funeral Service with Reverend Leonard Pirtle officiating. Burial will be at the Garden of Memories Cemetery at Vian, Oklahoma, where his parents and brother were laid to rest. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Thursday.
