r-whitingRick Whiting was born May 17, 1958, in Newport News, Virginia, to Raymond Wayne and Vivian Irene (Lockwood) Whiting. He died Tuesday, October 11, 2016, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, at the age of 58 years. Rick was reared and educated in Newkirk, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Newkirk High School Class of 1976. He continued his education attending Northern Oklahoma College earning his associates degree. He was married June 27, 1981, in Ponca City, Oklahoma, to Edie Lynne Parker. Rick worked for Huffy Bicycle and the City of Ponca City before embarking on a long career as a computer analyst with Conoco-Phillips. Rick was a faithful member of Eastern Heights Christian Church in Ponca City and then later with First Church of Owasso. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes including singing and playing the harmonica with his band “Barely Normal”. He was also an avid Oklahoma Sooner fan.

He was preceded in death by his step-father, Troy Duplissey, and grandparents, Doc and Helen Lockwood, and Ross and Clodell Whiting.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, October 16, 2016, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2016, at First Church of Owasso with Pastor Charlie Curran and Mike Raburn officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Stephen Whiting, Danny Morgan, Joe Anderson, Ed Sutton, Kevin Stephens, and Greg Batschelett. Honorary casket bearers will be Aaron Burks, Scott Batschelett, Sean Batschelett, Ed Latimer, Jonnie Parnell, Mark Love, Mark Berry, Jack Snyder, and Jay Butler. Committal service and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2448 East 81st Street, Suite #300, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74137. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
