Samuel Ronald Phillips was born October 10, 1943, in Choska, Oklahoma, to Earl and Joanna Alice Wood Phillips. He died Monday, April 17, 2017, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 73 years. Sam was reared and educated in Haskell, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Haskell High School Class of 1961. He continued his education attending Oklahoma State University earning his associates degree in metallurgy. He was married September 4, 1965, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Nancy J. Knight. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Army. Sam spent much of his working life as a machinist. He and Nancy were faithful charter members of Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso. They had made their home in Owasso since 2014. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes including watching sports and westerns. He was an all-around handyman and could fix just about anything. Most important to him was his family and his faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Joseph Aaron Phillips, and siblings, Eugene Phillips, Flocella Phillips Albert Phillips, and Marion Baker.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Friendship Baptist Church in Owasso, with Pastor Linzy Slayden and Jeff Smith officiating.
