Carol Regina (Syverson) Linihan, resident of Oologah, passed from this life on Thursday evening July 6, 2017. Carol was born January 11, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio to Clarence and Edith (Perna) Syverson. After completing the third grade, her family moved to Tulsa, OK where Carol completed her education, graduating East Central high school in 1956. On June 27, 1959, she and Richard E. Linihan were united in marriage in Tulsa at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The newlyweds promptly began their lives together by moving to Oologah and starting a ranching operation where they would spend the next 58 years. Moving the city girl to the country was a challenging endeavor, but it opened up the opportunity to develop hundreds of new and lasting friendships.
Carol left an indelible imprint on the hearts and lives of many people, with an emphasis on the importance of love and family being the predominant theme. She was known to make you feel right at home, by either her witty sarcasm or by offering you something to eat, even after you told her you weren’t hungry. Her most notable dishes, spaghetti and lasagna, were difficult to turn down, in more ways than one.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years – Richard; three children – Monte Linihan and wife Chris of Oologah, Reggie Keith and husband Kelly of Oologah and Wendy Hughes and husband Greg of Stillwater. Also surviving are Mema’s seven grandchildren – Grant Linihan, Gates and Emily Linihan, Caitlin and Jerett Hardy, Cheyanne and Wes Jordan, Chance and Jessica Keith, Sage and Wyatt Glasgow, Sienna Hughes and Eric Marone; six great grandchildren – Huck Linihan, Paisley Jordan, Lauren Keith, Rhett and Remington Glasgow and Avonlea Linihan; and two sisters – Joyce Toney of Broken Arrow and Debbie Totty of Grove, OK. Carol was preceded in death by her parents.
Carol requested no formal funeral service. A visitation honoring her will be held from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the Red Barn Event Center on Sunday, July 16th from 1:00 pm -5:00 pm where we will share memories of Carol and celebrate her life. The family requests that those wanting to honor her memory may do so by donating to the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 4606 East 67th Street, Building 7, Suite 103, Tulsa, OK 74136-4974.
