Margaret Lucretia Cooper was born October 31, 1921, in Washington, Pennsylvania, to Elizabeth Cooper. Due to her mother’s unexpected death, she was adopted by William and Eva Mumford at three months old; and her name was changed to Marguerite. At the age of three, the family moved to Detroit, Michigan. Marguerite accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined St. Steven’s AME Church at the age of 15. Marguerite graduated from Northwestern High School in Detroit in 1939. She had a variety of jobs over the years. One of her favorites was being an elevator operator. She enjoyed meeting and talking to people. Her first child, Calvin Lamont was born on October 17, 1942. She married Robert H. Edmonson in 1949; and to this union two children were born – a son, Gregory, and a daughter, Jewel Marie. Marguerite graduated from nursing school in June 1966 at the age of 45. She worked at Brent General Hospital and retired from there in May 1985. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri, in August 1987. There she joined Cleveland Avenue Baptist Church and served on the Senior Usher Board. She was baptized on October 15, 2000, at the age of 79 saying, “I want to do this the way Jesus did.” Marguerite moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, in October 2004 and then to Owasso, Oklahoma, in August 2005. She joined Grace Baptist Church in 2009, where she was a member until her passing. Marguerite had a passion for bowling and watching football, basketball, baseball and soap operas (The Young and the Restless). Marguerite departed this earth on August 16, 2017, at the age of 95.
Her parents, husband, and son, Calvin, preceded her in death. She leaves behind a son, Gregory (Brenda); daughter, Jewel Marie (John); grandchildren Jenelle (Sam), Charisse, Jeneen (Derick), and Gregory Jr. (Sonya); great grandchildren Avery and Elise; and a host of friends.
