John Leslie “J.L.” Jones, Sr., was born November 1, 1927, in Owasso, Oklahoma, to Raymon Bell and Esther Emeline Newhouse Jones. He died Tuesday, January 2, 2018, in Yukon, Oklahoma, at the age of 90 years. J.L. was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Navy during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Cumberland. He was honorably discharged in September of 1947. He was married January 6, 1948, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, to Carlene Audrey Morgan. They lived in Hugoton, Kansas,
where he worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Gas Co. as a vibration expert. He was transferred to Alva, Oklahoma where they lived for 18 years before retiring to Grove in 1984. J.L. was a member of the Hugoton Masonic Lodge as a lifetime 32nd Degree Mason. He also enjoyed a variety of pastimes including fishing, woodworking, and spending time in his garden.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carlene, two brothers, Raymon Earl Jones and Frank Lester, and a sister, Frances Esther Anderson.
Visitation will be held at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2018. Graveside service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fairview Cemetery in Owasso with Pastor Leonard Pirtle officiating.
