Donie Mae Braggs was born March 4, 1921, in Piedmont, Alabama, to John James and Julie Colpitt Braggs. She died Sunday, May 6, 2018, in Claremore, Oklahoma, at the age of 97 years. Donie was married May 11, 1936, in Gadsen, Alabama, to Guy Edward Braggs. She spent most of her working life as a homemaker and caring for her family. She was a strong woman of faith and a longtime member of First Assembly of God in Collinsville, Oklahoma. She enjoyed a variety of pastimes including sewing and quilting. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed serving up her favorite dishes for her family and for the church. She also enjoyed spending time outdoors, particularly working in her garden.
Those she leaves behind who hold many cherished memories include:
Six sons: Rudy Braggs and his wife Aretha, of Collinsville; Jerry Braggs and his wife Barbara, of
Catoosa; Howard Braggs, of Claremore; David Braggs, of Coker Creek, Tennessee, Verlon Braggs and his wife Connie, of Claremore, and Ivan Braggs, of Bixby, Oklahoma
18 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, and 31 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Guy, two sons, Paul Braggs, and Clarence Braggs, two great grandsons, three sisters, and two brothers.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Jeff Bradley officiating. Committal service and interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
