SGT Kenneth Yount & Lt Randy Brock

02/22/2023 – It is the end of an era at the Owasso Police Department as SGT Kenneth Yount and Lt Randy Brock prepare to retire in early March.  Between the two they have nearly 80 years of service to the Owasso Community.

A retirement send-off was held today at City Hall in their honor.  Family, friends, and members of the community stopped by to wish them well in the next chapter of life.

It is a true loss for the community, but we are so happy for them and appreciate everything they have done for Owasso over the years.

Below are short bios for both officers.

SGT KENNETH YOUNT

Ken Yount started his employment with the Owasso Police Department in December of 1984. With an employment history involving the United States Army and in EMS, Chief Morgan accepted Kenny without delay.

Kenny field trained under Tony Klahr for 10 full days before hitting the streets for solo patrol. He attended the police academy 9 months later. During his 38-year tenure, Kenny was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant.

Kenny has supervised specialty units such as SROs, K9 Corps, Field Training Staff, Reserves, Honor Guard, and many others.

Kenny was a member of Owasso’s first tactical team, then a Warrant Service Squad. Kenny served as the coordinator of Owasso PD’s Gang Unit and served on the Tulsa Metro Gang Unit.

Kenneth served with the distinction of being the Officer of the Year in 1996.

Ken will retire one of the most decorated officers in the history of the department earning over 36 Medals for bravery, meritorious service, and other distinguished actions during his career.

Ken Yount retires as Administrative Sergeant for the Owasso Police Department…..

OPD will miss the over 38 years of experience, everyone will miss the man that brought smiles and joy to our faces time and time again, and the Police profession will miss a dedicated lawman that brought acclaim to Oklahoma Law Enforcement for decades.

LT RANDY BROCK

Randy Brock started his employment with the Owasso Police Department in March of 1985. Randy was hired by Chief Morgan after working at Williams Company in Tulsa. Randy field trained under Tony Klahr for 10 full days before hitting the streets for solo patrol. He attended the police academy 6 months later.

During his 38-year tenure, Randy was promoted to Field Sergeant and later to Lieutenant/Watch Commander.  Randy was at one time the sole K9 Officer of the Owasso Police Department, having Nick 1, then Nick 2 as partners for many years. Randy has been a part of many specialty programs including serving as SWAT Commander for the OPD Special Operations Team, later reorganized as SWAT.

Randy has served as Reserve Unit Commander and served in other specialty units.

Early in his career, Randy served as one of two dedicated Detectives for the Owasso Police Department, An interesting fact about Randy is that at one point in his career, he transferred to the Owasso Fire Department for a short time, later returning to the PD, and he’s regretted returning ever since. Randy was one of a handful of Owasso Police Officers that responded to the OKC (Alfred Murray Federal Building) Bombing in 1995 where he represented Owasso with honor and was exposed firsthand to the aftermath of violent domestic terrorism.

Randy is a decorated law enforcement official who has earned over 27 Medals in the line of duty for his bravery, meritorious service, and other distinguished actions during his tenure. Randy Brock retires as the Watch Commander of the A1 Patrol Shift, a position he has held for over 20 years.  Owasso Police will miss a great mentor that has shaped the course of the agency and the lives of an entire generation of officers and detectives.

Randy is a quintessential Oklahoma Lawman.
