Richard "Ken" McSlarrowRichard Kenneth “Ken” McSlarrow was born May 31, 1938, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Edwin Eugene McSlarrow and Eunice Retha Simpson McSlarrow. He died Sunday, June 11, 2023, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 years. Ken was reared and educated in Tulsa and was a graduate of Central High School. He continued his education at Northeastern Oklahoma A & M in Miami, Oklahoma, the earned his Bachelors degree in criminal justice at the University of Tulsa. He was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Navy. He was married April 24, 1970, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Diane Doughty. Ken spent his professional career as a patrol corporal with the Tulsa Police Department. He was the recipient of the Medal of Valor and the Purple Heart from the Tulsa Police Department for bravery and devotion to duty in 1981 after being shot by fleeing and armed suspect. After retirement, Ken was always a man looking to stay busy. He was proud of his work as a docent with the Will Rogers Memorial Museum in Claremore, Oklahoma. He was a man of faith and attended First Baptist Church of Owasso. He loved his family and was especially fond of his role as “Pa Pa”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Eunice McSlarrow, and sister, Janet Helm

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Graveside funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Floral Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, with Pastor Sam Wilson officiating. Final honors will be provided by the Tulsa Police Department Honor Guard. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Ken’s honor to The Mission-First Baptist Church Owasso, P.O. Box 1020, Owasso, Oklahoma, 74055. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
