Emel Clarence Hess was born August 16, 1935, in Manchester, Oklahoma, to Oswald and Sarah Marie McClaflin Hess. He died at home on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years. Emel served his country honorably with the United States Army for 22 years and did two tours in the Vietnam War. His decorations included the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Bronze Star Medal. He was married September 25, 1965, in Glenrock, New Jersey, to Glynis Patricia Garshina. Emel attended the LifeChurch in Owasso. He enjoyed a variety of pastime such as fishing, cooking, and spending time in his garden. He dearly loved his family and was especially fond of his role of “Grampa” and “Boompa”.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Glynis Hess, son, Jerry Hess, three brothers, Armester Hess, James Hess, and Walter Hess, and sister, Augusta Hess.
Funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2023, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Kurt Dowd officiating. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Emel’s memory to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O.
