David Edward Finkle was born September 30th, 1956 in Newark, Ohio to Richard James Finkle and Margery Orr Finkle. He died Tuesday, September 17th, 2024 in Owasso, Oklahoma at the age of 67 years. David completed his secondary education in Newark, Ohio and graduated with the Newark High School Class of 1976. He was a Veteran of the Armed Forces, having served his country honorably with the United States Navy active duty 1976-1980 and later joined the Air Force Reserves. He continued his education at Columbus Technical Institute in Columbus, Ohio. In 1982 he met Kim Martin, and they were married April 14th, 1984 in Columbus, Ohio. They moved to Owasso, Oklahoma in 1984 where David began his professional career as a mechanic with American Airlines. Aviation was his passion and his work ethic was second to none. As passionate as David was toward his career, his family was his true devotion. David enjoyed a variety of pastimes, but especially spending time with his family. He dearly loved his grandchildren Ashton and Emalee and was particularly fond of his role as Grandpa. Some of his fondest memories included family vacations to Branson and Ohio, taking the camper to various state parks, baking (known for his delicious banana bread), and long walks around Centennial Park. He was a dedicated member of the Owasso VFW Post #7180, spending many of his weeknights shooting pool with some of his closest friends.
Those he leaves behind are his wife of over 40 years, Kim; daughter, Heather Smiddy and husband Robert; son, Daniel and fiancé Darcy; grandchildren, Ashton and Emalee Smiddy; brother, Jeff Finkle and wife Vanessa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dick and Margery Finkle, sister and brother-in-law, Claudia and Mike Keck, and parents-in-law, Grant and Evah Martin. Dave will always be remembered as a hard-working, selfless man who dedicated his life to his country and family. May he rest peacefully in heaven.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, September 23rd, 2024 at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel. The rendering of military honors will be provided by the Owasso VFW Post #7180. Final resting place for David will be at St. Francis De Sales Cemetery in Newark, Ohio. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. (www.moweryfs.com)
