Jana Kay Thomas was born March 31, 1967, at St. John Hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Bobby Gene Thomas and Maxine Norwood Thomas of Owasso, Oklahoma. She died Friday, October 25, 2024, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 57 years. She was welcomed home by her sister Rinda, and three years later her brother James Dowell Thomas was born completing the Thomas family. Jana enjoyed summertime at Flint Creek with her family and learned to swim at Slate Hole. She was quite the tomboy and spent hours riding her three-wheeler ATV through Graceland Acres where the Thomas’ had lived since 1963.
Jana attended school in Owasso, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Owasso High School Class of 1985. She was a member of the Pride of Owasso Marching Band. She traveled with the band to march in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York and to Pasadena, California, to march in the Tournament of Roses Parade. Jana was a member of the 4-H Club in Owasso and was honored with the title of Tulsa County 4-H Club Queen. She attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where she met and married Robert Hyde in 1989. She was blessed with two daughters, Mackenzie Kay, born in 1990, and Jaycee Nicole, born in 1993.
Jana taught adult education classes at Tulsa Technology Center for several years before earning her real estate license and working for Gordona Duca in Owasso. Jana’s health struggles began in 1994, but with strength and determination she was able to raise her girls. She shared her life with her significant other John Lowery for 14 years until his sudden passing in 2016.
Jana was encouraged through her health struggles by loving care from family and friends. Nothing gave her great joy than the arrival of her six grandchildren. Holidays with her “grandbabies” were precious to Jana. In her most recent years, Jana was resident of Broken Arrow Nursing Home before moving to Sequoyah Pointe Living Center in Owasso at the time of her passing.
