Agnes Marie (Ostdickenberg) Stout was born January 16, 1931, in South Coffeyville, Oklahoma, to Reinold Henry Ostdickenberg and Deliliah (Jones) Ostdickenberg. She died Saturday, February 8, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 94 years surrounded by her four generations of loved ones.
Agnes grew up in various places around Bartlesville, Oklahoma, with her two brothers and one sister. She married Leon Amos Stout on March 11, 1950, in Bartlesville and were soon parents to three children. In 1957, Agnes and Leon moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where they raised their family and resided until 1971. While her children were growing up, Agnes cared for her family and was primarily a homemaker. When her youngest daughter Kathy started school, Agnes began working at Booker T. Washington High School in the cafeteria and worked until 1973. Agnes had a special love for her only son, Henry Dale Stout, and while Leon would be gone pipelining, it was her and Henry’s job to figure out how to fix things and to keep the household running. Agnes never got over Henry’s death and is now at home with him.
In 1971, Leon and Agnes moved to Owasso, Oklahoma, and resided there until 2005. In 2005, Leon and Agnes moved to Bokoshe, Oklahoma, where they were able to be closer to their oldest daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tim Tanksley and had more time to spend with their growing family. Leon passed away March 3, 2008, after 57 years of marriage, and Agnes continued to live independently in Bokoshe until shortly before her death. Agnes thrived living in Bokoshe, and made sure everyone knew it with her back door sign “This Is My Happy Place”. She enjoyed the simple beauty of the outdoors and nature. She loved feeding the hummingbirds and a turtle, watching other birds (not the roadrunners), rabbits, squirrels, and deer.
In Agnes’ 94 years, she wore many hats and had many hobbies including Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout pack leader, roller skating, trying to hula hoop with grandkids, #1 fan of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s endeavors, quilting, crocheting, upholstering furniture, sewing all of her kids clothes, providing food for her family by planting, growing and canning various vegetables, square dancing, searching for the next garage sale find, working beside her husband on various projects, playing ball and games with her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Her door was always open for her family and friends, and she was always known for her blackberry cobbler and lemon pie. Agnes was a strong woman of faith and was an active member at Meadowview Baptist Church in Owasso for many years. In later years she enjoyed singing hymns, listening to singer Daniel O’Donnell, putting puzzles together, and spending hours looking at pictures of her family. If you were at her house and Molly B’s Polka Party came on the television, you automatically had to watch it, just ask her grandson Ian Glassco. In the last 10 years she wanted to try and ride a bike again, but her two daughters didn’t think it was good idea.
Agnes will be laid to rest next to her son Henry Dale Stout and her husband Leon Stout. Along with her son and husband, Agnes was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Reinold Henry Ostdickenberg, Jr., sister, Edith Shoopman, and five half-brothers and sisters.
