Therapeutic foster care is specialized care for children with emotional and behavioral problems originating from abuse and neglect. They have been diagnosed with emotional and behavioral issues such as attention deficit disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, oppositional defiant disorder and others. The children who are referred receive more services than traditional foster care children. They need loving and committed homes that will work with the therapists, Department of Human Services, and school to meet the treatment plan goals. Their stay in therapeutic foster care may be short-term or long-term.
The mission of Southwest Foster Care is to establish, maintain, and enhance quality foster care service. They strongly promote the therapeutic foster care youth’s self-respect and maturity by building and increasing self-esteem through multiple positive experiences and relationships.
