A.J. Lyles was born April 13, 1925, in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, to Walter Lyles, Sr., and Anna Gillis. He died Tuesday, March 5, 2013, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years. A.J. was a veteran of the armed forces having served his country honorably with the United States Navy during World War II. He later continued his service with the United States Air Force. He was married December 13, 1967, in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, to Darla Turner. They had made their home in Owasso, Oklahoma, since 1976. A.J. spent most of his working life in the trucking business, mostly as a truck driver and primarily with Ryder Truck. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes, especially drinking coffee with his coffee buddies at the Flying J in Tulsa. He loved his family and always had a smile on his face.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Walter Lyles, Jr.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2013, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral services will be held 3:30 Friday, March 8, 2013, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Father Tim Davison officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Bill Sherrill, Tyler Osborn, Chance Sherrill, Andy Reynolds, Jeffrey Lyles, and Alan Lyles. Committal services and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
