Alex “Sonny” Veppert was born November 8, 1926, in Manchester, Ohio, to Joszef and Mary Krumpach Veppert. He died Wednesday, September 17, 2014, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years. Sonny was reared and educated in Edinburg, Ohio, and graduated with the Edinburg High School Class of 1945. He was married September 24, 1956, in Daleville, Indiana, to Marilee Gentry, and were married for nearly 50 years. He spent 31 years as a truck driver with Morrison Motor Freight in Akron, Ohio, and later with Chief Freight Lines. Sonny and Marilee moved to Owasso in 1980, at which time he became the recycle manager for the City of Owasso for 20 years. Sonny always greeted folks with a friendly smile. He had a strong work ethic, but family was what was most important in his life.
Loving family members include: Five children; Keith Veppert and his wife Debbie, of Anderson, Indiana Kathy Smith, of Hilliard, Ohio Stephanie Shepard and her husband Tom, of Grove City, Ohio Shawn Veppert, of Tulsa, Oklahoma Trent Veppert, of Collinsville, Oklahoma Two grandsons; Jarrod Smith and Colin Smith Granddaughter; Alexandria Koser Great granddaughter; Aurora Smith Sister and brother-in-law; Pauline and Dan Vaughan, of Virginia He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Marilee, three brothers, Joseph, John, and Carl, and a sister, Mary.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral services will be held 1:00 Monday, September 22, 2014, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Leonard Pirtle officiating.
