Arthur Phillip Munger was fourth child born to Claire Winfield and Velma Liles Munger, October 6th, 1947, in Dodge City, Kansas. Arthur went to school in Kingsdown, Kansas, until fourth grade when the family moved to Dodge City. Growing up Art loved horses and broke his first horse when he was nine years old. Art loved to bowl and in 1964 won the Kansas State Bowling Tournament. Upon graduation Dodge City High School in 1965, Art received a football scholarship to Dodge City College. Art weighed 150 pounds and was asked to block John Riggins who went on to play fullback for the Washington Redskins. After being run over by John week after week, Art decided that maybe football wasn’t the best way to pay for his education. Art graduated Kansas State University in 1970 with a degree in animal science. After college he worked at a dehydrating factory for two years. In 1974 he returned to work on the family farm with his father. Art came to Oklahoma in 1977 and trained horses for three years for Harold Huspeth, who taught him how to shoe horses. He worked for Huspeth until he earned his real estate license. He went to work for Professional Home finders, but continued to shoe horses on the side to supplement his income. Art met Barbara Caudle in 1982 through a dating service. It was love at first sight and after three months they were married. They would have celebrated their 37th anniversary on October 29, 2019. Art was taking classes for his A & P license when he got a job at Rockwell International where he built airplane wings. After being laid off from Rockwell, he worked for several other airframe companies, until he made the decision to go into business for himself. He turned his part-time job of shoeing horses into a full-time business, and taught all three of his sons to shoe horses. In 2016 Art retired and turned his business over to his son Marc. For many years Art would raise a huge garden, but was having trouble getting anything to pollenate his green beans, so he bought a hive of bees. The garden soon became secondary and the beekeeping consumed his time and attention. He planted new flowers, trees, and plants to feed the bees. In the spring he wouldn’t cut the grass or spray the dandelions because the bees needed the pollen. Art had many interests and hobbies, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Each of his children and grandchildren held a special place in his heart. He wanted you to know how much he loved you and that each of you were very special to him. His number one wish was that you promise to meet him in heaven.
