ask-the-expert-46255_140x133Question:

The colder weather is approaching.  My skin, specifically my hands, always feel drier in the winter.  Which is a better moisturizer: cream, oil or lotion?

Answer:
In general, an oil is going to be more moisturizing than a cream, and a cream is going to be more moisturizing than a lotion.  Ointments, such as Vaseline (petroleum jelly), are going to be about equal with oils.  The downside to oils and ointments is that they tend to be messier and leave a greasy feeling on the skin.  Creams are a little less messy, and lotions are the least messy.  A good idea is to use a less messy option such as a cream or lotion during the day, and use an oil or ointment over night while you sleep.
