Question:
I’m in my 40s and starting to see thinning skin under my eyes. Is there a product that helps rejuvenate the skin?
Answer:
Thinning skin under the eyes is a very common concern. The skin in that area is already very thin to begin with and the blood vessels under the skin are very close to the surface. As the skin thins, the blood vessels become more apparent and give the skin a dark hue. This is one of the most important areas to focus on in order to maintain a youthful appearance.
The two most important things to do in order to maintain this area are providing adequate hydration and preventing further damage. There are numerous eye creams that are available over the counter. All of them probably provide at least some benefit. Something is better than nothing. However, with moisturizers, you frequently get what you pay for. It’s important to choose a product with peptide hydrators that penetrate deep into the skin to help hydrate the dermis and promote collagen formation. An excellent product that we offer at my office is Eternox made by Theraderm. It contains three different products to combat the aging process. Preventing further damage is accomplished by avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours of the day and wearing a sunscreen designed for the face that is at least SPF 30. Hope this helps!
