Question:
When first using the birth control pill, is it effective immediately?
Answer:
Birth control pills are effective immediately if taken within the first five days of your cycle. If taken more than five days after starting your cycle, they are effective after seven days of use. A backup method should be used until the seven days are complete. Also, remember that while birth control pills do protect against pregnancy, they do not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
