Question:
I am always having urinary tract infections. What’s going on down there and how do I treat recurring UTIs?
Answer:
Recurring UTIs are complicated problems and not always due to the same reasons. Women have very short urethras (the tube that urine comes out of) and are more susceptible to UTIs. The most common cause is related to intercourse. During this activity, bacteria are introduced into the bladder easily so it is important to empty your bladder after intercourse. Sometimes women have symptoms of a UTI but the foods and beverages that are consumed are actually what are causing the irritation to the bladder lining. Taking a cranberry supplement reduces the ability of bacteria to adhere to the inside lining of the bladder and can help reduce bladder infections. If you continue to get recurrent UTIs despite these recommendations, you need to speak with your physician.
