Question:
I just found out I’m pregnant and I’m not sure what foods I should be eating while pregnant. I’m taking pre-natal vitamins but could you tell me if there are specific foods I should try to incorporate into my diet?
Answer:
There are no specific foods that you should be eating while you’re pregnant. You should eat a healthy diet with plenty of protein, healthy fruits & vegetables and fiber. However, you should avoid undercooked meats, limit your fish intake to two servings per week, limit caffeine intake and minimize “junk foods” that add extra calories. The American Congress of OB/Gyns also recommends that you avoid unpasteurized meats and cheeses, and that you cook any deli meats that you consume.
