Bette Lou (Lepley) Frakes passed away Wednesday evening, September 17, 2014 at the age of 91 years. She was born December 1, 1922 in Taylor County, Iowa to Jacob Lee and Bessie Mae (Seifert) Lepley. Bette was raised on the family farm, and graduated high school in Clearfield, Iowa On May 21, 1955 Bette was united in marriage to Leon Frakes in Tulsa, and had resided in Owasso for more than 60 years. She’s a 1958 graduate of the University of Tulsa and taught in the Tulsa Public School System for most of her professional career. Bette was a caring “Granny”, mother, daughter and sister who spent much of her retirement years as the sole caretaker of her father, mother and brother. She loved to travel abroad, gardening, especially loved ballroom dancing, she frequently visit family and dear friends in Iowa, cook Sunday dinners, make homemade ice cream and host Sunday school class meetings in her home. Bette was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church of Owasso for over 40 years.
Those that survive include her children Sara Cresswell, Melanie Stokes and husband Mike, John Frakes and wife Jan all of Owasso and Henry Frakes and wife Heather of Purcellville, Virginia. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, one brother J. William Lepley, one sister Lois Bea Martin and a granddaughter Cynthia Slagle.
Visitation for Bette will be from 4-6 on Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 at Mowery Funeral Service. Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Mowery Funeral Service with Pastor Bill Ascol officiating. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery, Owasso under the care of Mowery Funeral Service, Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
