The Dawes family moved to Oklahoma in 1998 from Florida. It took his family just a few months to find the right church, after visiting most churches, they ended up at Rejoice Church and attended there until Joe left Owasso in 2009. His parents currently attend First Baptist Church in Owasso. Joe graduated from Owasso High School in 2006, then took some classes at TCC and RSU. In 2009 he moved to Champaign, Illinois to help start a new church called Redeemer Church. Joe continued his education at Parkland college, Joe met his future wife Jamie after moving to Illinois and after a few months of dating, he proposed. They were married in July, 2013 and came back with a honeymoon baby…which they found out about in August.
Sawyer was born in April, 2014. He was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease with a grade 5 reflux. This meant he was not urinating enough, and the excess would go back up and damage his kidneys. He also had a blockage in his urethra, by the posturethral valve.
Sawyer has undergone surgery and numerous procedures to correct his kidney problems and they are now waiting for Sawyer to grow, he needs to be at least 23lbs for the next surgery, which will be to reverse the urostomy and fix his ureters so there will not be a reflux. Sawyer is at 13lbs now. In the future, Sawyer will probably need a kidney transplant, what they are doing now is to try to prolong that as long as possible.
Friends of Joe asked if something could be done to help this family. A bunco fundraiser was created and will be held on Friday, June 12th to raise “gap” money.
