Wanda Carrol Melone was born August 6, 1929, in Franklinton, Louisiana, to Henry Slidle Pierce and Katie Josephine Lea. She died Sunday, January 10, 2021, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 91 years. Carrol was reared and educated in Bogalousa, Louisiana, and graduated with the Bogalousa High School Class of 1946. She was married September 12, 1953, in Pineville, Louisiana, to Robert Paul Melone. After making their home in Owasso, Oklahoma, Carrol spent most of her working life as a homemaker caring for her family. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church in Owasso then with Grace Baptist Church in Owasso. She was a member of the Owasso Historical Society and the Owasso VFW Auxiliary Post #7180. She was a member of the Owasso Golden Agers and served her community working for the City of Owasso, delivering meals to the Community Center. Carrol enjoyed a variety of pastimes including golfing, bowling, and working picture puzzles. She also enjoyed spending time and doing activities at the Community Center. She enjoyed parades and veteran’s activities. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, and cherished her role as “Granny”.

Great grandchildren; Weston Barnett, Britton Bradshaw, Audrey Hollowoa, and Max Melone
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert Melone, sister, Jo Etta Burris, brother, Henry Pierce, and daughter, Susan “Eileen” Ridley
Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 18, 2021, with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Fairview Cemetery in Owasso with Pastor James Lacey officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Paul Melone, Robert Ridley, Charlie Ridley, Herb “Rip” Rippley, Luke Hollowoa, Beau Bradshaw, and Weston Barnett. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Carrol’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 2448 East 81st Street, Suite #3000, Tulsa, Oklahoma, 74137. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
