David Wayne Hurst, Sr age 77, of Collinsville, passed from this life on Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at the Journey Home in Bartlesville. David was born June 16, 1945 in Bakersfield, CA to Claudy David and Vera Elizabeth (Pugh) Hurst. Shortly after his birth, the family returned to Oklahoma where he was raised in the Kinta area. David graduated from Stigler High School, class of 1963, then enlisted in the US Navy, serving his country. Following his honorable discharge, he made his home in North Carolina; later relocating his family to Tulsa. David worked for St. John Medical Center in Tulsa as the Director of Trade and Renovation, retiring in 2011. He was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and Shriner’s. David enjoyed being “a cowboy”, horse trading, hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles.
Those that survive and hold many cherished memories include his children – Diane Michele Hurst, David Wayne Hurst, Jr, Daniel Scott (Stoney) Hurst, Darrick Lang (Smokey) Hurst and Trisha Lianna Rummage. Also surviving is a brother Mickey Hurst; 14 grandchildren – Camrie Hurst, Torie Roberts, Clayton Hurst, Clint Hurst, Anne-Marie Hurst, Darrick Hurst, Cassidy Hurst, Andee Hurst, Michael Hurst, Samuel Hurst, Ruth Rummage, Judah Rummage, Moses Rummage and Abe Rummage. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Patsy and one brother Tom.
Memorial services for David will be at 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 12, 2023 in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, Owasso with his son Smokey Hurst officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in the San Bois Cemetery, near Stigler, OK at a later date.
