David Wesley Bates was born January 9, 1964, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Bobby Dean and Wanda June Cline Bates. He died Wednesday, July 20, 2021, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 57 years. David completed his secondary education in Owasso, Oklahoma, and graduated with the Owasso High School Class of 1982. David spent most of his working life with HollyFrontier Corporation in Tulsa as a boiler operator. He enjoyed a variety of pastimes, most of which involved just having a good time with his friends and family. He had worked as a DJ at 20th Century Electric Company in Tulsa and he enjoyed going dancing at other clubs as well. He was an avid fan of University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane football, which usually included a pregame ritual of tailgating. Most important was his role of “Pawpaw” to his granddaughter, Lilah.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Wanda Bates.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, July 26, 2021, at Mowery Funeral Service in Owasso. Funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Leonard Pirtle officiating. Serving as casket bearers will be Jeff Bates, Paul Bates, Austin Bates, Jerry Gammill, Jimmy Ford, and Mark Graham. Committal service and interment will follow at Graceland Memorial Park Cemetery in Owasso. The family requests memorial contributions be made to Toys For Tots, at www.toysfortots.org . Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso.
