Fatality report for the month of January.
Department of Public Safety officials report 48 fatalities in January 2014 compared to 31 in the same month last year.
Three pedestrians died in crashes during the month of January. The highest daily fatality numbers include ten deaths on Fridays, dropping to nine on Wednesdays and Thursdays. There were eight days in the month of January the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
One of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Forty of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and eight nonresidents. There were 33 male and 13 female victims.
Seven of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 51 – 60 year-old led the fatality count with 11.
Mayes, Tulsa and Washita Counties led the state with a fatality count of four, followed by Oklahoma County with three fatalities.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on County Roads with 18. There were eight fatalities on City Streets.
Fifty-one percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
