Department of Public Safety officials report 55 fatalities in July 2014 compared to 61 in the same month last year.
During the month of July there were five motorcyclists and one pedestrian who died in crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include 13 deaths on Thursdays, dropping to 11 on Fridays. There were nine days in the month of July the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
Four of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Forty-nine of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and six nonresidents. There were 39 male, 14 female victims and two unknown genders reported.
Nine of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 31 – 40 year-old age group led the fatality count with 12.
Oklahoma County led the state with a fatality count of nine, followed by Bryan and Garfield counties with four fatalities.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on State Highways with 18. There were 14 fatalities on US Highways.
Fifty-six percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
