Fatality report for the month of August.
Department of Public Safety officials report 54 fatalities in August 2014 compared to 74 in the same month last year.
During the month of August there were five motorcyclists and six pedestrians who died in crashes. The highest daily fatality numbers include 12 deaths on Saturdays, dropping to 11 on Fridays. There were nine days in the month of August the Department of Public Safety reported no fatalities.
Two of the fatality crashes were alcohol-related. Forty-four of the fatality victims were Oklahoma residents and ten nonresidents. There were 33 male, 20 female victims and one unknown gender reported.
Nine of the fatality victims were under the age of 20. The 21 – 30 year-old age group led the fatality count with 11.
Tulsa County led the state with a fatality count of six, followed by Oklahoma County with five fatalities.
The highest number of fatalities occurred on US Highways with 14. There were 13 fatalities on State Highways.
Fifty-four percent of those who died in traffic collisions were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
