explosion

12:00pm – as this is an ongoing investigation, this report is from scanner traffic information. No release has yet been made from the Owasso Police Department.

Just before 11:00am Saturday morning, the Owasso Police Department was called to what was first reported as a domestic incident, in the area of 11500 North 131 East Avenue, in the Falls at Garret Creek housing addition.

When officers arrived, they found a man outside with a hand wound, then reported as a fireworks accident. They soon saw smoke coming from inside the residence.

Officers at the scene were concerned of a  possible meth lab explosion. The man with the hand injury (hand blown off according to scanner traffic) was taken to a Tulsa hospital. Two police officers on the scene were taken to a local hospital for possible chemical exposure.
Around 11:30 am the Owasso police department chemical team was suiting up to investigate.  No lab was found.
Investigation now suggests that gun powder being packed into what appears to be commercial grade mortars may have caused the explosion.
ATF agents and Owasso Police will continue the investigation.
1:20pm – OPD reports that explosives did not appear to be fireworks.
