On Friday, June 27, 2014 at approximately 7AM, Owasso Police and Fire Departments responded to a reported incident where a resident of the Greens Apartment Complex observed what he believed to be a Pipe Bomb in a trash dumpster in the 13900 block of East 83rd St North in Owasso.
Upon arrival, Officers surveyed the device and determined its shape and description was consistent with an improvised explosive device (I.E.D.).
Due to the size of the device several apartment buildings were evacuated and a large area cordoned off. Residents displaced by the incident sought shelter in a large meeting room at the Clubhouse at the Greens Golf Complex nearby.
The Tulsa Police Bomb Squad responded and after careful evaluation determined the device was in-fact an ‘improvised launching device’. While similar to an I.E.D., the launcher had no accelerant and was not in any danger of detonating. The bomb squad dismantled the device and residents were quickly returned to their homes.
Documentation of the incident will be provided to the Municipal Prosecutors Office.
The Greens Apartments are located in the 13600 East 84th Street North.
