Florence A. Edwards, longtime resident of Owasso, passed from this life on Tuesday evening, July 12, 2016, at the age of 70 years. Florence was born to Orval and Irene (Ramsdale) Vance in Portland, Oregon on November 18, 1945. She was raised by her adoptive parents Henry and Elba Mae (Jones) Hamlin in Muskogee, Oklahoma, where she graduated high school. On September 10, 1966, Florence and Gerald Edwards were united in marriage; and to this union, four children were born.
Florence worked for many years as an administrative assistant to the Dean of Associates of the University Of Tulsa School Of Law. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Owasso where she participated in the Bible Study and the UMW. She and Gerald had previously been active members of the Owasso First Baptist Church. Florence was an accomplished painter, having received her degree in Art from the University of Tulsa. She had always been active in her children’s activities and had served as a scout den mother; it goes without saying that family was always a priority with her.
Those that survive include her husband of 49 years, Gerald; their children, James Edwards and wife Cindy of Princeton, New Jersey, Vicki Edwards-Thomas and husband James of Oologah, Oklahoma, Dena Geib and husband Richard of Skiatook, Oklahoma, and Susan Edwards Spence and husband Justin of Owasso; grandchildren, Grant Edwards, Corey Vitt and wife Sarah, Kalie Meoli and husband Eric, Drew Dietlin, J.W. Thomas, Gabby Thomas, Grace Fae Cook-Thomas, Dylan Geib, Ryan Geib and Delilah Spence; and great granddaughter Kyra Meoli.
Memorial services for Florence will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 15, 2016, in the sanctuary of the First United Methodist Church in Owasso. Officiating will be Pastor Chuck Horton. At her request, cremation will take place. Arrangements and services have been entrusted to the Mowery Funeral Service of Owasso. www.moweryfs.com
