An electrical short could cause the windshield wiper motor to catch fire in about 32,000 SUVs, recalled by General Motors.
GM is recalling 2016 model-year Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse and GM Acadi SUVs to fix the problem. About 6,400 were sold, and the remaining recalled vehicles were being held at dealerships until repairs are made.
Owners were notified, according to GM, and advised not to use their front windshield wipers until the repair is made. The repair involves replacing the cover on the windshield wiper motor, because the faulty cover can allow some electrical terminals to come into contact with each other.
If weather makes it necessary to use the vehicle with windshield wipers, GM will make arrangements to pick up the vehicle to make the repair. They also will arrange rental cars if parts aren’t available.
The problem was reportedly discovered at the plant where the vehicles are made in Lansing, Michigan.
