Harold Dean Large, longtime Owasso and Talala resident, passed from this life on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at the Claremore Nursing Center. He was 83 years of age. Dean was born September 1, 1932 at Red Fork, Kansas to Clyde and Bernice (Ricketts) Large. He was raised and received his education in Kansas. On April 2, 1950, he and Mattie Louise Nordyke were united in marriage at Ft. Scott, KS. They made their home in Kansas until moving to Owasso in 1954. From 1973 until 2002, Talala was home. Louise preceded him in death in 1995. In 2002, Dean moved to the Claremore Nursing Home. He was a longtime member of the Talala First Baptist Church and the Talala Historical Society. Dean also enjoyed restoring antique furniture. He worked as a fabricator in the manufacturing of windows for Horner Glass.
Those that survive include his children – Patricia Sanders and husband Ed of Claremore and Ronnie Large and wife Vinita of Talala; six grandchildren – Mizzy Zdroj and husband Chris of Smithville, TX, Ronny Sanders of Claremore, Bart Sanders and wife Rachel of Claremore, Sedena Aguila of Inola, Johnnie Large and wife Debbie of Owasso and Doug Large and wife Amber of Talala. Also surviving are 21 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; a brother Paul Large of Grove, OK and a sister Wanda Flynn of Wichita, KS. Besides his wife, Dean was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Funeral services for Dean will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 26, 2016 in the chapel of Mowery Funeral Service with Rev. Lester Orwig of Talala First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Talala, OK. Those that would like to honor Dean’s memory, may do so by contributing to the Talala Historical Society, PO Box 91, Talala, OK 74080.
