Harold Lowell Meister, Jr. was born on March 5, 1935 in Miami, Florida, to Harold Lowell Meister, Sr. and Ollie Bessie Leone Hutchison Meister. He passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, August 5 in Owasso, Oklahoma. Lowell graduated from Forest Lake Academy in Apopka, Florida in 1953. He met his lovely wife, Dellene Irene Jordan Meister, while attending Southern Adventist University. In 1956, they were married in Memphis, Tennessee, where he attended Southern College of Optometry and received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees in 1959.Dr. Lowell Meister served as an optometrist in Nowata, Oklahoma, for over 50 years, from 1959-2014. He was a member of the local Chamber of Commerce and when he retired, he received a key to the city. He was a member of the Oklahoma Optometric Association as well as the Seventh-day Adventist Optometric Association.He was proud to be a Seventh-day Adventist and served as an Elder in the Nowata SDA Church. He served on both the Oklahoma Conference Executive Committee and the Southwestern Union Conference Executive Committee. He was honored to be a delegate for the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventist multiple times. In his later years, he served as the Associate Director of Visual Affairs for the General Conference. He was an avid gardener all of his life, growing vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. In his retirement years he completed training to become a Master Gardener. He loved creating beautiful bouquets from the flowers he grew in his many flowerbeds. He also enjoyed golfing, birding, and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dellene, and his three daughters, Shirlene McClendon & Bill of Vancouver, Washington, Gwendolyn Baker of Owasso, and Glenda Sweezey & Ed of Owasso. Lowell loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were all mentioned by name in prayer every morning and evening. His grandchildren are Shari Fogelquist & Jeffrey of Randallstown, Maryland, Emily Minty & Caleb of Owasso, Benton Baker & Gabriela of Beaumont, California, Claire Fast & Derek of Owasso, and Austin Lambeth & Jessica of Owasso. His great grandchildren are Winston Augustus, Penelope Rainier & Whitney Amelia Fogelquist, Madelyn Rose Minty, Blaine Helen, Lucy Wayne & Mabel Hope Fast, and Sofia Dellene Baker. His legacy was his family, and he was thrilled that all were followers of Christ. He was proceeded in death by Harold Meister, Sr., Father; Ollie Bessie Leone Hutchison Meister, Mother; Muriel Ann Meister, Sister; and Marcus Wayne Baker, Son-in-law.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, September 2, at 2pm at Adventist Fellowship located at 15303 E 21st Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma. There will be a viewing this Tuesday night, August 8, from 4-8pm at Mowery Funeral Service located at 9110 N Garnett Road in Owasso, Oklahoma.
