Question:
Is there such thing as a “healthy weight gain” during pregnancy?
Answer:
Recommendations for weight gain during pregnancy are directly related to your pre- pregnancy body mass index (BMI). The American College of OB/Gyns recommends that if your pre-pregnancy BMI is less than 18, you should gain 30 to 40 pounds. If you are of normal weight with a BMI of 18-25, you should gain 25 to 35 pounds. If you are overweight with a BMI of 25 to 30, you should gain 15 to 25 pounds. Finally, if your BMI is over 30, you should gain less than 20 lbs.
