Helen Bernice Owens, age 81, of Owasso, OK, graduated from this life to be with our Lord on November 21, 2013 following a hard battle with cancer. Heaven has gained a most precious wife and mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Owasso, and has been a member of the Lord’s army since just a little girl. Bernice was born October 4, 1932 to Roscoe and Ethel West in Granger County, Tennessee. She was raised and received her education at Bean Station, TN. On March 8, 1962, Bernice was united in marriage to Clarence Dairell Owens in Ringold, Georgia. Following their marriage they made their home in Morristown, TN, leaving in 1974 and spending the next 28 years in Carrollton, Texas. For the past seven years, they have made their home in Owasso. While in Morristown, Bernice worked as a clerk at the Dillard’s store. While in Texas, she was employed with Joskes Dept. Store, a law firm and lastly a credit card clearing company. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Owasso, and has been a member of the Lord’s army since just a little girl. Bernice enjoyed sewing and cooking, but her faith and family were the priority of her life, especially her granddaughter.
Bernice is survived by her husband and companion of 51 years – Clarence; Children Penny Dankovcik and husband Richard of Murphy, TX and Bobby Owens, wife Donna and their daughter Riley of Farmersville, Texas; two brothers – Gale West and wife Judy and Dennis West and wife Lorene all of Bean Station, TN; a sister Frances West of Bean Station; as well as several nieces, nephews and a host of friends across the U.S. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Dean West and sisters Otella Reed and Thelma Carpenter.
Visitation for Bernice will be Sunday Nov. 24, 2013 from 4pm – 6pm at Mowery Funeral Service with funeral services Monday at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Wall officiating. There will be a second visitation on Tuesday November 26th at the Mayes Funeral Home in Morristown, TN with graveside services at 10:00 AM Wednesday in the Rocky Summit Cemetery, Bean Station, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bernice’s memory to the: MD Anderson Cancer Center, 1515 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
