TULSA, Okla. (March 1, 2018) – Hideaway Pizza is joining efforts to save the monarch butterfly, and other pollinators including the honey bee, with the seasonal release of its honey-drizzled specialty pizza The Pollinator from March 5 through May 14.
Nearly 75 percent of the world’s crops require pollination. Pollinator populations have declined dramatically in recent years. Oklahoma and Arkansas both lie within the migratory path of the monarch butterfly.
Hideaway will donate 10 percent of proceeds from sales of The Pollinator to support “Okies for Monarchs,” an initiative of the Oklahoma Monarch & Pollinator Collaborative, a statewide group of more than 40 organizations working together to protect and enhance suitable habitat for pollinators in Oklahoma.
Hideaway will also host a free public education series called “Monarch Meetups,” where families can learn from local experts how to plant and maintain their own monarch gardens at home.
Events are currently scheduled for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 13 at Hideaway Pizza in Norman, 577 Buchanan Ave., and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10 at Hideaway Pizza in Yukon, 1701 Shedeck Pkwy.
All ages are welcome. Free samples of The Pollinator pizza will be provided and attendees will receive a free seed kit to begin their pollinator garden.
The Pollinator is a Hideaway Pizza original, with an olive oil and garlic glaze, pepperoni, spicy capicola, salami, and banana peppers atop fresh mozzarella and a parmesan-herb shake, then drizzled with honey. The seasonal pizza will be available at all Hideaway Pizza locations in Oklahoma and Arkansas.
