John Scott, Jr. was born October 18, 1928, in Stilwell, Oklahoma, to John, Sr., and Kate (Carden) Scott. He died Friday, October 31, 2014, in Owasso, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years. His passing occurred on the same date as what was his mothers’ birthday. John was reared and educated in Stilwell, Oklahoma, and was a graduate of Stilwell High School. He continued his education attending Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in education. He was married December 24, 1951, at Crawford, Arkansas, to Joyce Maupin. John was a proud veteran having served his country honorably with the United States Air Force. He started his longtime teaching and school administration career with Owasso Public Schools. He made an impact on hundreds of children in Owasso where he taught science as well as coaching both girls and boys basketball. He later served as the Owasso sixth grade principal. One of his fondest pastimes was watching his favorite team of who he was an avid fan, the Oklahoma Sooners. Most important to him was his family who he enjoyed tremendously and was the joy of his life. Of course as is the case with grandparents, he loved and supported his grandchildren going to their soccer games, football games, and basketball games. John was also fond of eating, especially Pam’s pumpkin pie and strawberry shortcake.

Thompson, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma Son and daughter-in-law; John Scott III and his wife Marti, of Claremore, Oklahoma Grandchildren; Shannon Boone Jaime Willingham Jeff Scott Stephanie Thompson Phil Boone Josh Willingham Terri Scott Great grandchildren; Conner Shaw Noah Roberts Crayton Shaw Madison Willingham Bo Scott He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jerry Scott, and sisters, Margie Henry and Bettye Wofford.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 3, 2014, at the Mowery Funeral Service Chapel in Owasso with Pastor Dwayne Thompson. Serving as casket bearers were G.W. Thompson, Jeff Scott, Phil Boone, Josh Willingham, Bobby Rutledge, Wayne Wood, and Doug Hightower. Committal services, military honors, and interment were held Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma.
