Lauren Pickens has been selected to receive the Jim Thorpe Award for being the best high school tennis player in the state of Oklahoma.
Lauren attended Owasso High School. She was a two-time 3rd place finisher and a two-time runner-up, both at 6A one singles, in the Oklahoma State tennis tournament. Lauren was also a three time regional champion, and in her four years, lost only twelve matches and had over one hundred and twenty wins. In addition, Lauren has been a part of many zonal teams and the Missouri Valley Federation Cup team. She has also participated in many prestigious, national tournaments including National Hardcourt Championships, Winter Nationals, and Easter Bowl. However, Lauren is also a very serious student. She was ranked five in her graduating class of over 500, maintaining a perfect unweighted GPA and a weighted GPA of a 4.2. Lauren was also recognized as a National Merit Commended Scholar and an AP Scholar with Honor. Lauren has been an editor on her high school yearbook staff for three years and does community service through the Owasso chapter of the National Honor Society. Lauren plans to attend the University of Kansas and major in chemical engineering, while being a member of the Jayhawk’s tennis team and the SELF Leadership Fellows Program.
